    History of Pune

    Pune is derived from the word Punya or holy. The first reference of Pune was as early as 786 A.D. Pune was famous for being under the Maratha rule. The first Maratha regime began in early 1600. The power back then kept shifting between the Bhosle and the Mughal dynasty.
